The US imported some 185 kbd of Colombia crude oil in 2024 and its vast majority was heavy sour Castilla accounting nearly 70%.²⁾

Colombia plays a significant role in the US oil market, having exported approximately 41% of its seaborne crude oil to the US in the previous year (2024), according to data from Kpler, an analytics firm.^{3) 4)}

Colombia’s key export grades are heavier crudes, and so refiners in the US Gulf Coast will either have to find alternatives or face higher costs.^{5) 6)}
