Olmeca

  • a.k.a. Dos Bocas

In February the country’s six refineries operated near the highest rates seen in more than six years. Oil use should keep rising as Pemex works to start commercial operations of the new Olmeca refinery, also known as Dos Bocas, with capacity to process 340,000 barrels of crude oil a day.1)

The refinery, which has been running behind schedule and over budget, is part of Lopez Obrador's strategy to wean the country off expensive gasoline and diesel imports.2)

Mexico's energy ministry expects the Dos Bocas refinery to process an average of 178,600 bpd of crude oil this year. While the refinery is operational, it does not yet produce finished fuels.3)
